South League tournament – February 11th 2018

Hey guys! We played two league games in Haslemere today.

Oxford 4-5 Vikings
Maxi (Johan)
Matthias (Milan)
Felix (Alberto)
Milan (Ian)

We started very well, going 1-0 up. We had a bad second period where they scored 4 of their goals and a really good third period, which ended with a power play in our favor which we unfortunately could not take advantage of. Even though we didn’t win (or at least equalize), it was a great game guys!

Oxford 0-4 Hastings

We played well but could not do much against them, since they played a really good game. We did make a few mistakes but overall it was good. We even scored a goal that the referees didn’t see.

We had a great tournament today! Well done everyone!

University Tournament – February 4th 2018

Hey guys! We played in a university tournament in Bath today.

Oxford 3-1 Exeter
Zia (unassisted)
Chris (Lucas)
Ian (Zia)

We played well from the beginning with lots of shots and opportunities. Good game in general.

Oxford 1-2 Bath
Lucas (Alberto)

After a chaotic start, we started playing well as a team. They got lucky and scored a last second goal when the game was 1-1.

Oxford 0-1 UCL

It was not a good game. We were not shooting enough and then they scored after a very chaotic play.

Oxford 1-1 Imperial-LSE
Alberto (unassisted)

After going 1-0 down, we kept trying and eventually scored. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it 2-1.

Oxford 4-0 Exeter
Zia x2 (Gifford, unassisted)
Gifford (unassisted)
Ian (Zia)

A good game from the start. We played very well as a team, much better than the other games.

Oxford 0-1 Bath

A disappointing result. We played much better than them but they scored the only chance they had while we couldn’t score any of ours.

Oxford 2-0 UCL
Zia x2 (Chris, unassisted)

The first game we played properly. We played well and dominated the entire time.

Oxford 1-1 Imperial-LSE
Chris (Alberto)

We played quite well, it’s a shame we couldn’t win it but we got close.

Overall, it was quite disappointing. We were playing really bad in the beginning and then it got much better in the second half of the tournament. Had we played as well in the first half we probably would’ve gotten to the final at least. We ended in third place which is not too bad considering most teams had double the players we had.

Thanks for coming everyone!

South League tournament – January 28th 2018

Hey guys! We played two league games in Haslemere today.

Great White Sharks 9-0 Oxford

We had a bad first period where the sharks scored most of their goals. They are the best team in the UK so our mistakes were punished heavily. We improved and by the end we were playing quite well.

Vipers 3-1 Oxford
Felix (unassisted)

They only managed to score after some bad defensive errors and a power play. We had some chances but could not score that much. This game definitely could’ve gone either way.

Thanks for coming everyone! Shout out to Chris, Wei Jin and Moritz, who played their first league games for the team.

South League tournament – January 14th 2018

Hey guys! We played two games in Haslemere today.

Hastings 10-1 Oxford
Felix (Raimonds)

We had a great start to the match, with an excellent first 10 minutes, where we went up 1-0. In the next periods, we couldn’t keep up with Hastings. Their movement made our defense too chaotic and we kept leaving people open. We definitely had the skill to beat them though, since we dominated the first ten minutes.

Vikings 10-1 Oxford
Zia (Matthias)

We played well for a while, but after they scored 3 goals we got a bit demotivated and started playing worse and lost focus.

It wasn’t a great day for us but at least we showed we are capable of playing good floorball. We just have to keep it up the whole game. Thanks for coming everyone!

South League tournament – December 2nd 2017

Hey guys! We played two league games in Haslemere today.

Vipers 9-2 Oxford
Zia (Marcus)
Marcus (Felix)

It took us until the third period to wake up, and by that time we were losing by a large margin already. It also didn’t help that we scored a goal that the referees didn’t see, so the official score ended up being 9-1. It really wasn’t our game.

UCM 4-2 Oxford
Ian (Lucas)
Felix (Zia)

We played a completely different game to the first. We took an early lead in the first period which ended with an equalizer from UCM. We took a 2-1 lead again later in the match after a period of really good play from us, but UCM tied up the game shortly after. Unfortunately, UCM ended up scoring 2 late goals in the last 3 minutes, but overall we played a really good game.

Although we played a poor game against the Vipers, our game against UCM was one of our best of the season. We got really close to drawing, but got a bit unlucky in the last 3 minutes of the game. Well played everyone!

South League tournament – November 26th 2017

Hey guys, today we played two league games in Hastings.

Hastings 2-1 Oxford
Milan (Johan)

After an excellent first period in which we took an early lead, we made some defensive errors which led to Hastings scoring 2 consecutive goals. We played really well and it ended up being a really close game against the UK’s second best team!

London Hammerhead Sharks 4-1 Oxford
Johan (Lucas)

The Sharks took the lead early in the game. We gained some hope after scoring an equalizer but ultimately couldn’t come back after they scored 2 goals. A late own goal from us made the defeat even worse.

Thanks a lot for coming everyone! We played really well in the first game , and the second game was a bit unlucky. We also had bad luck with the referees, who weren’t calling many fouls. Overall, a positive day despite the losses.

Friendly against Warwick, November 18th 2017

On November 18th 2017, we played a friendly against Warwick. It was great to see so many new people!

Oxford 4-3 Warwick

Maxi (Moritz)
Moritz (Lucas)
Ian (Johan)
Johan (unassisted)

We had a great first period where Warwick wasn’t pushing us too high. We went 4-1 up by the end of the second period but Warwick managed to come back in the third period which made for a very tight end to the match.

South League tournament – October 22nd 2017

Hey guys, today was our first day in the South League! We played two games, against the London Vikings and the London Great White Sharks, last year’s UK champions.

Oxford 4-1 Vikings
Maxi x2 (Alberto, Marcus)
Zia x2 (Felix, Alberto)

The Vikings arrived quite late which meant we had to shorten the game to two periods of 20 minutes. We took advantage of their lack of subs with some great offensive pressure and good shooting. Our new players brought in a lot of movement which was a key element of our victory. Great start to the season!

Oxford 0-9 Great White Sharks

Last year’s UK champions were too good for us. We struggled in the first period but changed the formation to 2-1-2 which helped a lot. We had some good defending and some decent offensive chances but we were no match for the Sharks.

Overall, a very positive tournament day! Shout out to Si Hong, Marcus, and Ryan who played for the club for the first time!

Alumni game 2017

On Saturday, June 3, the second alumni game took place. The current team played against the alumni team, composed of ex-Oxford floorball players, and also all the players that would leave at the end of the year.

In a hotly contested first period, both teams had many good chances to score, but solid defending and good goalkeeping prevented any goals.

The second period was equally tense. Both teams had their chances, but ultimately it was the alumni that took the lead toward the end of the period with a goal from Andreas, who had been playing for Oxford in his year abroad. But the alumni team were not done yet. Another goal from Andreas shortly after his first put the alumni team two goals ahead.

In the third period, the current team tried to come back, but it was an uphill battle. The exhaustion from the first two periods did not help the home team, which struggled to generate many scoring chances. Bennett did eventually score a goal for the current team, but it was too late, the alumni team took the 2-1 victory.

Goals and highlights of the game:

Cuppers 2017

On Saturday 27 May, the annual Floorball Cuppers tournament took place at the Iffley Road Sports Centre. There were five participating teams, but only one of them could take the trophy home. There was a group stage followed by semi-finals and then the grand final.

Group stages

Queen’s 0 – 0 Wolfson

The first game of the group stages was between Queen’s and Wolfson. In a nail-biting game where both teams had ample chances to score, great defending and goalkeeping from both teams ended in a 0-0 draw.

Green Templeton 1-0 Christ Church

Green Templeton’s excellent offensive play earned them the victory in the second game of the group stages. Despite Christ Church’s best efforts, it was impossible for for them to come back.

Keble 2-0 Queen’s

The inexperienced Keble team was no match for a Queen’s team with several first-team players. Keble had a difficult time defending with no substitutes, while Queen’s took advantage of their full team of 7 to take the win. Valiant effort from Keble!

Wolfson 1-0 Green Templeton

A close game that was that was decided by an all-important goal from Wolfson.

Christ Church 0-0 Keble

After their initial defeats, both teams were looking for a victory to survive the group stages. In a hard-fought game, with excellent defensive play from Keble and constant offensive pressure from Christ Church, neither team managed to score.

Queen’s 1-0 Green Templeton

A great all-round game from Queen’s, managing to defeat a strong Green Templeton team.

Keble 0-0 Wolfson

Another excellent defensive performance from Keble. Wolfson’s offensive efforts were not enough to overcome the strong Keble defense.

Christ Church 1-0 Queen’s

Christ Church handed Queen’s their first defeat of the tournament after a very good performance from both the offensive and the defensive players from Christ Church.

Green Templeton 1-0 Keble

A tired Keble team could not come back from a skillful goal from Green Templeton. After this game, Keble was eliminated in the group stages.

Wolfson 1-1 Christ Church

The group stages concluded with a strong performance from both teams, who managed to score one goal each.

[table id=16 /]

Queen’s 1-1 Christ Church (0-1 in the shootout)

The first semifinal was between the first team and the fourth team in the group stages. A surprisingly good performance from the Christ Church team kept them alive,  and a heroic goal from Christ Church captain Felix Westerén in the shootout granted them their victory.

Wolfson 0-0 Green Templeton (2-1 in the shootout)

The second semifinal was extremely close, but the match finished goalless after an excellent defensive performance from both teams. The shootout was even more exciting; Green Templeton scored first, and Wolfson showed that they would not give up by scoring right after. A further Wolfson goal, which Green Templeton could not match, ended the shootout in a Wolfson victory.

Christ Church 1-1 Wolfson (1-0 in the shootout)

The Christ Church team had been improving throughout the tournament, with a poor start followed by better and better performances as the tournament progressed, culminating in an excellent performance against Wolfson. Christ Church took an early lead, only to be denied later on in the game by a Wolfson equaliser. In the shootout, neither team had managed to score until Christ Church hero Dan Zaitsev broke the streak. Wolfson could not match his goal, and Christ Church went on to become Floorball Cuppers champions!
